How to prepare your skin before makeup?
Whenever we think about applying makeup, the first step comes
in our mind if of applying foundation.
We skip all those steps that we should do before applying the
foundation.
We don’t know that how clean and clear skin is importance for
a perfect and flawless makeup look.
Will you put your dishes of fully garnished and mouthwatering
food on an unclean table?
No matter how tasty and delicious food you have
cooked and how nicely you’ve presented it. If your table is not clean properly,
no one is going to like that food. Perhaps they will not even taste that food.
Same is the case with your skin and makeup. If your skin is
not neat and properly clean, it will be unable to hold your makeup for a long
time. And results will be horrible.
Clean and clear skin is the key to a perfect makeup look.
Here are some steps you should do before applying foundation.
Cleanse your face:
Use a cleanser which suits your skin best.
For dry skin:
If you have a dry skin, use a cream concealer. It will
moisturize your skin while cleansing.
Moisturized skin plays an essential role in holding makeup
for a long time.
For oily skin:
If you have oily skin, then go with a gel or foam
moisturizer. It will gently cleanse your skin without making it oily. Instead
it will remove excess oil from your skin.
For combination skin:
Combination skin means some parts of your face are oily and
some are normal or dry.
For this skin type, use cleansers that are specifically made
for combination skins.
Cleanse your face:
- Wet your face with lukewarm water by splashing water on your
face with water in your hands.
- Repeat this step 2 to 3 times.
- Then apply your selected cleanser on your face.
- Gently massage the cleanser all over your face for 45 to 60
seconds giving time to the cleanser to work.
- Then rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- Don’t use hot water as it will make your skin dry.
- Dry your face with gentle patting of a towel. Don’t rub the
towel on your face as it will irritate the skin leaving red patches on your
face.
Apply toner on your face:
Many people overlook toner. But this is an important step as
it will remove any leftover dead skin cells and bacteria.
Squeeze a bit of toner onto a cotton ball or cotton pad and
gently swipe it all over your face.
The idea here isn’t to scrub the skin, but
instead, to gently wet the face with the toner.
Use an alcohol free toner.
I will recommend simple rose water. It is the best natural
toner so far.
If you want to make your own rosewater at home you can check
my previous blog on Homemade Rosewater. It is chemical free rosewater with
zero side effects.
Apply moisturizer:
Choose moisturizer according to your skin.
- If you’ve dry skin, choose cream moisturizer as it will give
your skin a good dewy look.
- If you have oily skin, select an oil free moisturizer.
- Select a light moisturizer which contains SPF 15 at least
that will protect your skin from harmful rays of sun.
The best way to apply moisturizer:
Many people apply the moisturizer in a wrong way. They take a
huge amount of moisturizer on their palm. Rub their palms and apply it on their
face. And keep on massaging it.
Massaging gives them a feeling that you’ve applied less
amount of moisturizer.
As a result, they keep on applying moisturizer until they get
a good oily feeling on their face.
This way is completely wrong.
You just have to apply moisturizer on
your face and gently pat it with your fingertips. This will ensure
that you don’t apply too much moisturizer, which can lead to breakouts and/or
oily skin.
Do not rub it as it will look like you have applied less
moisturizer.
Patting will draw your blood to the upper surface which will
consequently give your skin a rosy look.
Most Important:
Let the moisturizer sink into your skin. Give it at least 5
minutes. This is a really important step that we all neglect or some people
don’t even know about it.
We people just keep on applying products on our skin without
giving them room to sit.
Leave your skin for minimum 5 minutes after every step while
doing makeup.
Apply primer:
Most of us don’t give any importance to the primer.
Primer is the key step in applying makeup. It gives a base to
your makeup. It plays an important role in holding your makeup for a long time.
- Dab the primer all over your face.
Color correcting concealers:
If you’ve blemishes, acne, pigmentation, blue or dark spots
choose a correct color concealer.
Preparing lips:
- Exfoliate you lips by a sugar scrub in circular motions.
- If you don’t have any sugar scrub, you can make a scrub of
your own.
- Simply mix coconut oil and sugar in 1:1 ratio.
- Gently rub the scrub on your lips in circular motions.
- It will remove dry patches and dead skin cells from your
lips.
- Then apply petroleum jelly or a lip balm on your lips.
Important:
Give at least 10 minutes to the balm or moisturizer to soak
into your lips.
Here you go babes!
Your skin is now ready for makeup products.
